Spas-Zaulok, 12km NNW of Klin, 92km NNW of Moscow: [Best played as Allied or against Human opponent] On December 5th the Soviet counteroffensive commenced with an assault on the "Klin Bulge," north of Moscow. Russian ski and tank units, imitating German "blitzkrieg" tactics, broke through the extended German lines in a number of locations. Their first goal was to drive west, punching a deep wedge between the 36th and 14th Motorized Divisions. Then, after capturing the town of Spas-Zaulok, to turn south and take Klin. If this town were to fall, the main east-west supply road of the 3rd Panzer Group would be severed. This scenario is the first of four covering the Soviet counteroffensive depicting the opening phase of the battle.
