Rzhavets, 35km NNE of Belgorod: NIGHT [Best played as Axis] By the second week of July 1943 the battles raging throughout the Kursk Salient were about to reach their peak. On the northern front of the battlefield the German Ninth Army continued to batter at the Russian defenses covering Kursk, while in the south the 48th Panzer Corps inched its way toward Oboyan. However, the main event of Operation Citadel was about to begin near Prokhorovka where 4th Panzer Army's SS Panzer Corps prepared to clash with elements of the Soviet 5th Gds and 5th Gds Tank Armies in the largest armored battle of World War Two. By afternoon on the 11th, the leading formations of Army Detachment Kempf's 3rd Panzer Corps were approaching the eastern banks of the Northern Donets River, only 25 kilometers from Prokhorovka. Once across the watery barrier the panzer divisions planned to smash into the flank of the 5th Gds Tank Army, trapping the Russian mechanized forces in a pincer of steel. Creeping through the night toward Rzhavets, Major Bake of the 6th Panzer led a mixed column of tanks and infantry past silhouettes of parked T-34s from the regrouping 96th Tank Brigade to seize the bridges across the Donets before they could be destroyed. Suddenly, a shot rang out from the edge of the village as sentries from the 2nd/280 Guards Rifle Battalion recognized the ghostly column of panzers for what it was, beginning a mad free for all under the blood red Russian moon!

Axis side could use an extra mortar half-track or two and more star shells.
