[This scenario is intended to be played with the Blitzkrieg EFII expansion pack installed] Location : 45 km west of Budapest. The Soviet encirclement of Budapest is complete! Inside the city a mix of Hungarian and German troops is trying to stay alive. Outside the city things are not better! The last Soviet assault has ruptured the front north and south of the city as well. A breach of sixty kilometers now exists, filled with only isolated German and Hungarian troops. While the Soviets are keeping up the pressure , Army group south is trying to plug the holes in the line with every unit they can find. One of these units is a thrown together battle group commanded by Generalleutnant Pape (formerly in charge of rear-area security). His kampfgruppe is ordered to defend the woodlands west of the Vertes mountains. His kampfgruppe, composed of Hungarians and Germans , is about to stop a strong probing attack by the reinforced 1st Guards Tank Brigade and is in a good position to do so as the vanguards have scouted the area and established roadblocks on every major road. Pape knows there is no one behind him to help! Whatever is about to happen, it will here and now!
My recommendation: mass your forces, particularly your armor, and blow-torch your way thru.
