Version 1.2 best played against a human opponent. I would like
to give special thanks to Mitch Trent for making the map used
in this scenario. The XXXXI Panzer Corps had become bogged down
in it's attempt to capture Belyi. The plan now called for a bypass
to the south and advance towards Rzhev to link up with LVI Panzer
Corps.German high command wanted to close the escape route of
any Russian forces trying to retreat east. To this goal a Kampfgruppe
from the 1st Panzer Division was ordered to secure the road leading
to Rzhev and prevent any Russians from escaping the pocket. It
was initially thought that only scattered infantry elements were
in the area. However, a Russian tank division had managed to
conceal itself in a wooded area and was now trying to organize
for an attack which would lead to opening an escape route to
the east. The autumn rains had begun which hampered movement
and the German supply lines were being strained to the max. The
Luftwaffe was only able to provide minimal support due to the
ranges from its bases. The Russian airforce mounted the highest
rate of sorties seen on the eastern front to date. This scenario
is more of an historical novel based on the actions immediately
preceding the Dash to Kalinin scenario and together these two
scenarios depict the best efforts of the 1st Panzer Division
during the campaign.

Germans must be quick blocking the route to exit hexes. They have a narrow window for that.
