**Counterattack at the Dubysa - The Matrix Games version of East Front II

[Near Raseiniai, Russia 90km NW of Vilnius] [H2H] [HIS] [GD] The German attack on the Soviet Union 3 days ago achieved complete surprise. Soviet units on the border evaporated before the German assault. Continueing their advance, German armored and motorized units began deep penetrations into Soviet territory. The German 1st Panzer Division tasked with the attack towards Leningrad, pushed forward and on the night of the 24th secured Raseiniai. As dawn broke on the 25th the attack resumed towards Perkaniske but first the Dubysa River had to be crossed. Here the Soviets were determined to fight as the 41st Tank Division was committed to the attack! Earlier the previous day, the 41st checked the advance of the 6th Panzer and swung south later that evening to positions along the Dubysa. In the dawn mist of the 25th to the sound of distant engine noise, the men of the 41st slammed shut their tank hatches and moved forward from the Dubysa. Each man knew the day would bring hard combat in an effort to stop the Germans.
