Narva, Estonian/Russian Border [Best played against Human opponent] After a brief lull in the fighting around Narva, Front Commander Govorov's attack against the "nose" of the Narva bridgehead was thrown back. Undaunted, Govorov switched the attack to the Lilienbach area. His men attacked out of the forests and hit the troops of Lt. Col. Collani's 49th "Der Ruyter" Regiment from the 4th SS Nederland Brigade. Composed mostly of Dutch Volunteers, Collani's men looked like they where going to lose their trenches after Russian armor was launched at their positions. Only the timely arrival of a panzer battalion from the Nordland Division and Tigers from Jahde's 502 Heavy Panzer Battalion looked like it was going to save the last bridge over the Narva River.

This scenario. This. The Russian player must understand: if you want to have any chance of victory, you must go thru the meat-grinder. It's a tough thing for a lot of players to accept. I didn't realize it until about 7 turns in, and thus barely squeaked out a draw. Want an offensive challenge? This.

Played as Axis with Dawags (who generally bests me in any scenario that's reasonably balanced) taking the Allies. This one is just about impossible for the Allies to win. Sure, the Russians have the numbers and some good kit, but the Germans are dug-in behind minefield and obstacles, have lots of bunkers and a few pillboxes. Plus, the Germans have a lot of artillery, German supply levels are good, and the range to target starts short and gets even shorter with every turn. Play as the Red Army for a real challenge. Don't expect to win as the Red Army - do expect to suffer massive casualties. Dawags' Russkis made it all the way to the bridgehead on the east bank of the river, but did not have the time or the remaining strength to reach the bridges.
