Hango on the Gulf of Finland, 125km SW of Helsinki: NIGHT [Best played as Axis] With the beginning of Operation Barbarossa the Finns were not just invited to take part in a war, but to enter into a crusade against the Soviets. The Finns waited a week to launch their war, round two of the Finno-Russian conflict. Soon the biggest part of the army, under Field Marshal Mannerheim, was advancing to reclaim the territories annexed following the Finn's earlier defeat. The 17th Rifle Division, including a battalion of Swedish volunteers, was dispatched to the Gulf of Finland to destroy the Soviet garrison at the port of Hango. While the Soviets were pushed out of the occupied territories, at Hango the fighting continued through the fall and into the darkness of winter as the Soviet defenders steadfastly refused to give up the port and its access to the Baltic Sea. On 16 December the Swedish Battalion led the Finn's final assault into the Russian lines. If the defenses could be breached the five-month crusade for Hango would be over!
