End of Typhoon (sequel) - The Matrix Games version of East Front II

Naro-Fominsk, 72km SW of Moscow: [Best played by any method] With the coming of the first snowfall and the colder temperatures, the knee-high mud that had so effectively halted the Nazi invaders has hardened, once again allowing the German invaders recommence their bloody onslaught. With Operation Typhoon, the Germans hoped to crush the last Soviet resistance and burst into Moscow before the winter set in. One of the towns along the attackers' route was Naro-Fominsk, a cotton- and paper-milling town astride the Moscow motor highway. As right arm of a pincer movement 29th Infantry Regiment (3rd Motorized Infantry Division), supported by elements of the 27th Panzer Regt (19th Panzer Division), has been tasked to hold the Russians down while 458th Infantry Regiment (258th Infantry Division) encircles this nest of resistance. Control of the town and its vital road would mean the Germans would have a direct route to the gates of Moscow. Stiffening Soviet resistance, however, as well as plummeting temperatures of -38 degrees Centigrade, is slowly bringing Operation Typhoon to a bloody and chilly halt.The situation depicted is day 3 of the last offensive.
