Fight for the Factories - The Matrix Games version of East Front II

Stalingrad's Factory District: [Best played as Axis] On 23 October the Germans renewed determined attacks against the stalwart Red Army soldiers defending the rubble that was once the Barrikady "Cannon" Factory and the now-cold foundaries of the Red October steel mill. The survivors of Lyudnikov's 138th Rifle division struggled bitterly against the German 389th Infantry Division, supported by tanks from the 14th Panzer Division. In the Red October factory, the recently arrived 37th Guards, though only half strength, entered the fray against the 100th Jaeger Division. The Germans commenced their attack under cover of a swarm of "Stuka" divebombers. Strong thrusts near Banny Gully pushed toward the Red October factory. After a few hours the Germans had managed to break through to the "Bread Factory" and parts of the Barrikady ...just another routine day for the obstinate defenders of Stalingrad.
