[Best Played Against Human Opponent] In the operation that would eventually become "The Destruction of Army Group Center" the city of Minsk was the key. With its capture, the Russians could cut off numerous German units. One of the key routes of German escape was the Stolbtsky Hiway, which ran behind a series of low ridges. On July 1st, Rotmistrove's 5th Guards Army slammed into the German 170th Infantry Division (no more than a couple of reinforced battalions in reality), and threw them out of the town of Letornovski. A frantic call for assistance sent KampfGruppe Deitel rushing to help hold the vital Hill 621. As the Russians regrouped to continue the attack, the survivors formed a hasty defensive line on the ridges overlooking the Stolbtsky Hiway in an attempt to keep the road open so more of their comarades could escape the advancing Red tide.
