Scobilteni, 20 kms east of Iasi, Romania. (Best played as Axis). On 20 August the Russians launched a major offensive aimed at knocking Romania out of the War, defeating Army Group South Ukraine (German 6th and 8th Armies, Romanian 3rd and 4th Armies), and capturing Romania's oilfields. The result was the bloody Battle of Iasi-Chisinau (or Jassy-Kishinev), and the fulfillment of all Russia's aims. Most of the mobile Axis units had been sent north to patch up the Polish Front after the collapse of Army Group Centre, this left the Romanian 1st Armoured Division as the most potent tank unit in the area. 1st Armoured was split into two Battle Groups. Group B (containing most of the division's armour) met the onslaught of the Soviet 6th Tank Army head on. While Group A was given the task of counterattacking the flank of 6th Tank Army as it swept through the breach in the Axis front. It's immediate objective was Scobilteni, it was to be supported by two small German assault gun units. The task proved too great for these small forces to achieve. Can you do any better?
