Last stop on the road to extinction? - The Matrix Games version of East Front II

Hohenruppersdorff, 30kms North East of Vienna. (Best played as Allied). The Romanian 2nd Armoured Regiment had been used to support Soviet Rifle Divisions during the advance through Hungary and Austria in 1945. As a matter of policy, the Russians had denied the unit any replacement equipment, in an effort to extinguish Romania's last tank forces. Now down to it's last few serviceable vehicles they were finding it harder to beat off counterattacks from German Panzers. After capturing the town of Hohenruppersdorff on 11 April, 2nd Armoured Regt came under severe attack from the 3rd Panzer Division and the Combined 25th/26th SS Division (2 regimental sized units recruited from Hungarians, and only partially trained, uniformed and equipped), in an effort to cover the retreat of the Vienna garrison. 2nd Armoured barely escaped annihilation, just a few weeks later the unit ended the war with only 1 T4 tank and 3 SPW halftracks left.
