In the wake of the failed "Citadel" offensive, the German army found itself in a state of crisis. The Soviets were pushing relentlessly westward and were once again threatening Khar'kov. To make matters worse, by August 7th, a nearly fifty mile wide gap had developed between 4th Panzer Army and Army Detachment Kempf. The integrity of the entire German front was at risk. By the 12th, Soviet mechanized forces were pushing into the area of Bogodukhov and Vysokopol'e. This area was crucial to the defence of Khar'kov as it was a major rail/road junction and served as the primary means of reinforcing and supplying the city (which of course had been ordered held at all costs by Hitler). In an attempt to curb the Soviet offensive, SSDR and SSTK (which were origionally to be sent to Italy) were ordered to attack the advancing Soviet army. In conjunction with SS Panzergrenadier Division "Wiking", the weakened SS Divisions were once again playing the role of 'firemen'. This scenario depicts major elements of 3 SS Divisions (2nd,3rd,and 5th) as they run headlong into Soviet armored/mechanized units from the 29th Tank Corp, 5th Guards Tank Corp, and 5th Guards Meachanized Corps. The scenario was origionally conceived for team PBEM, and is based on the battles that took place just west of Khar'kov in mid-August,1943. Certain liberties were taken (necessarily) to ensure playabilty, however the OOB's are fairly accurate. It is ideal for two teams with 3 players per side.
Highly recommended.
