Hypothetical Battle) Simply put, in this one Fritz needs to escape the pocket, Ivan needs to stop him. There are various objectives available and exit objective hexes for the Axis player to utilize if he can successfully breakout. What follows is the ineveitable yet tiring explanation of how a hypothetical scenario "could" have happened... Elements of the 16th and 19th Regiments of the SS "Das Reich" and the SS"Totenkopf" Divisions have been fighting for days trying to hold the only corridor out of Northern Poland available to their proud but battle weary SS Divisions, while the bulk of their forces race to join them in an attempt to reach the Fatherland. 2 Days of poor weather have given both sides respite and allowed them to dig in under cover of fog, rain, and mist. The Russians have taken advantage of this to heavily reinforce their screening elements. Morning the third day dawns on a clear alpine sky....with unlimited visibility several kilometers. The two opposing lines, well within each other's LOS, start opening up on the other as the sun rises on what will prove to be the longest day, and battle, either have ever endured. Designer's Notes: This is a scenario built for playability and enjoyment on both sides. The map is challenging and presents some options/opportunities to the observant player. While this scenario is historically inaccurate, it is a barn burner. Potent and plentiful weapons abound, including some late war variants rarely seen in stock scenarios. Even forces, but with that said, the Russians are out gunned, just because of the range differance. Good map, no mistakes in the oobs, well done.
Axis player has to wear down the Russians and capture key areas to be effective in causing major casualties on your Russian opponent.
