This scenario is based on the Battle of Kursk. Specifically, it examines breakthrough operations conducted by the II SS Panzer Corps driving north to seize the city of Oboyan. The Panzer Corps was General von Manstein’s primary offensive formation in his command, Army Group South. Manstein’s Army Group was the southern pincer of the planned envelopment of strong Soviet forces holding the salient around Kursk. You are in command of a Panzerkeil, an armored wedge, spearheading one of the three SS panzer grenadier divisions of II SS Panzer Corps. You have a mighty combined arms formation. But ahead lie Soviet defenses in the form of minefields, dug in anti-tank guns and infantry. Intel suggests a strong Soviet tactical reserve waits if you should be fortunate enough to break into the enemy position. During the night, your pioneer troops cleared lanes through enemy minefields. They met resistence leaving burning wreaks as a warning (and hint to you). Play the German side with FOW. Mission: Destroy the enemy in

This scenario was not designed well at all. I would not be surprised if it was ever play tested. I played the Germans & Zap played the Russians. It took me 6 turns to get through the minefields in two places with only three Engineers available. I ran into a few T-34's and a huge amount of 76mm Anti-tank guns and some infantry. All were easily killed by my superior forces and then the Russians disappeared for the most part. I had occupied every victory point on the map (each one was worth 5 VP's) and then I searched for the remaining Russians. Zap could have stayed hidden and scored a Major Victory but being a stand-up guy he hit me with his remaining armor which I easily destroyed in a few turns and Zap ended with a Minor Victory. This scenario is boring and a complete waste of your time. It needs a complete re-work or better yet, just forget it.

From the Russian perspective. This scenario is poorly designed. Little work, if any, went into testing. Initial contact has the Russians hitting the Germans with their anti-tank guns. The points mount up in favor of the Russians. The German forces will easily roll over the Russian forces. But with the low 5 point value for the designated hexes, the Germans won't be able to gain enough points for a draw , much less a victory. So, If the Russians don't retreat and hide (as I did) in the forest, they will loose the battle. Germans, win if the Russians stay fighting. For me the battle made little sense. Test the scenario. And then make the changes. I agree with Yossarian this scenario was boring and goofy.
