Strongpoint Semenovka - The Matrix Games version of East Front II

Semenovka, 65km SSW of Kharkov: [Best played against Human opponent] In the spring of 1942 both sides focused their attention on the Izyum Bulge, south of Kharkov. Here was the setting of future decisive battles for the Germans as well as the Soviets. The only question was who would strike first? The German timetable planned the start of Operation Fridericus for May 18th. But on May 12th Soviet General Timoshenko mounted his pincer operation against the German Sixth Army with the objective to envelop and seize Kharkov! The southern jaw of the Russian attack struck with concentrated power from the Izyum Bulge. The German front lines were torn apart and as during the winter battle, numerous German strongpoints held out in the rear of the advancing enemy. The 261st/113 Infantry Regiment held one such strongpoint, located in the hills southeast of Semenovka. There the German infantry faced attacks by elements of the Soviet 28th Cavalry Division and the 36th Tank Brigade.
