Dunaburg (Dvinsk), 200km SE of Riga: [Best Played as Axis] In June 1944 the Russian Army took the offensive and attempted to divide the German Army into small isolated pockets. 1st Lt. Otto Carius and his company of heavy panzers were ordered to stop the Soviet advance at the town of Malinava, a northern suburb of Dunaburg (now known as Daugavphils, in Latvia). Nearing the outskirts of the town, Lt. Carius' advance units discovered that the Soviets were already present in some strength. Before more Soviet units could arrive, however, Carius determined that he should attack the still-unorganized defense.
