Mokra, 100km SW of Lodz Poland: [Best played as Axis] As the German juggernaut rolled into Poland on September 1st 1939, the Polish Armies retreated, covered by a cavalry screen. According to a pre-set plan a defensive line was to be established behind the three main river barriers in central Poland, the Prosna, the Warta and the Pilica. To get to Warsaw the German 10th Army, part of Army Group South, needed to force a passage over the Warta near Czestochowa. The 4th Panzer Division was to swing around the prepared defenses and cross the river north of the city. But the Poles had not overlooked this route of advance. The Wolynska Cavalry Brigade had been placed to secure the territory northeast of Czestochowa between the small town of Klobuck and the Liswarta River. As tanks from the strung out 4th Panzer approached Rebielice early on the 2nd, the cavalrymen cut loose with intense anti-tank fire, beginning one of the few battles where cavalry succeeded in delaying the advance of the German panzers.
