Butyrki, 90km N of Kursk: [Best Played Against Human Opponent] This is a Doug Bevard scenario adjusted by Mike Shepard for H2H play. Early on 5 July 1943, massed German guns shattered the gray dawn north and south of Kursk announcing the beginning of one of the most decisive battles of World War Two. In the north the German 58th Infantry Regiment became pinned down by intense fire from the defensive works near Yasnaya Polyana. This was a task for the Tigers of the 505th Heavy Panzer Battalion reinforced with some of the new super-heavy "Ferdinand" tank destroyers. The shock created by the sudden appearance of the steel fortresses collapsed the Russian defense and threatened to give the Germans the decisive breakthrough they needed. As the German behemoths pushed on to the southeast, T-34s and heavy self-propelled assault guns of the reinforced 51st Tank Brigade rushed through Butyrki and deployed across the rolling countryside and prepared to face the Tiger's fangs.
