[This scenario is intended to be played with the Blitzkrieg EFII expansion pack installed] Location : Borodayevka, between Dniepropetrovsk and Kremenchug. In the beginning of October, the failure of the Kursk offensive was still having effects on the southern part of the eastern front. Relentlessly, the Soviets had been pushing and pursuing all german forces east of the Dniepr river. On September 29, the Grossdeutschland panzergrenadier division completed his retreat when the last of it's soldiers crossed this river and the bridge across was blown! Together with 23rd Panzer division it was pulled off the line for a short rest and refitting. The rest however would be very short! On the 30th of the same month, units of 31st Guards Rifle corps brushed aside all resistance offered by the 306 Infanterie Division and captured an intact bridge over the Dnieper at Borodayevka (south of Kremenchug). Despite it's weakness, the 306th tried to eliminate the enemy bridgehead and suffered more casualities in the process. Still the Soviets wouldn't budge! German High command immediatly recognised the danger of this foothold on the western bank and ordered it eliminated as soon as possible! For this the Grossdeutschland division and 23rd Panzer were ordered to form a battlegroup around their panzer regiments and head south. From the south, the 9th Panzer received similar orders and left Dniepropetrovsk in a hurry, hoping to catch the Soviets when they were still weak. The urgent cries for help from Generalleutnannt Pfeiffer were becoming even more desperate as enemy tanks were observed heading for the river! STAVKA had also grasped the importance of this bridgehead and had sent the third Tank Corps towards Borodayevka with orders to cross the river and enlarge the bridgehead! The depleted infantry of 31st Guards Rifle corps was also ordered to enlarge their hold on the river and enlarge their hold on the western bank! 8th Guards army (the parent formation) was sending all possible reinforcements to ensure the success of the operation... the stage was set, the players ready. Soon the curtain would fall!
