With the Polish campaign behind them and winter approaching, the German Army is on the Russian border. While winter is definitely going to slow down offensive operations, it is imperative that a few bridgeheads be taken and held during the winter months to serve as springboards for the spring campaign. One such case in the Northern sector is Dvinsk. In 1941 Manstein's motocyclists had taken the bridges without much of a fight. But today's Red Army men are no more rabbits.
