Fastov, 70km SW of Kiev: [Best played by any method] Fastov was the communications center southwest of Kiev through which ran all the supply lines of the northern wing of German General Manstein's Army Group. When its small garrison was overrun by a Tank Brigade of the Soviet Third Guards Tank Army on November 7th, Manstein asked Hitler to release three panzer divisions to counterattack and retake the vital center. Hitler said no! The only choice to Manstein left was to use the Inexperienced 25th Panzer Division. It was to be employed straight from the trains that had brought it from France. The division had only been raised that summer and had never yet seen action as a division and lacked experience of the Eastern Front. Even worse the Tiger Battalion and the major part of the Panzer Regiment had been sent on to the divisions original destination. The panzer grenadiers, gunners and engineers would have to tackle the Russian tanks of the 55th Guards Tank Brigade alone!

Great scenario...played the last half with the new Matrix 1.03 assault rules..the German pioneer squads kept the Russians from claiming a victory...

The game is decided in the second half with slow but numerous Russian reinforcements

Eric tried to grab all the objectives at the outset, and was pretty successful here - the initial russian forces are VERY weak. But a 'J' shaped maneuver down the western road leading south by my heavy armor sealed the deal for his forces.
Thus, what is of supreme importance in war is to attack the enemy's strategy.

The Russians vanguards have no chance against the 25th Panzer.
Once wiped out 95% the Germans can capture all defense positions and prepare for the counterattack.
(with lot's of VP's on their account)

This scenario leaves very little margin for error to Allied player (hence my mark of slightly pro Axis). Although we finished at a draw, few more turns and my opponent could get a win. Overall Russians (once all forces arrive on the map) are stronger in armor, but they have very limited window for that.
