Krymskaya, 52km NE of Novorossijsk: [Best played against Human opponent] The German situation on the Taman Penninsula was beginning to deteriorate rapidly, prompting OKW to finally authorize a general withdrawal to the Crimean Peninsula before the German forces on the Taman were destroyed in detail. During the night of 7-8 September, Colonel Brandt received orders to pull his regiment back to the division railhead. Brandt's First Battalion, commanded by Captain Stransky, pulled out of their defensive positons just before dawn. However, Captain Stransky left behind Sergeant Steiner's platoon, without informing Steiner. At first light, Steiner's men awaken to the sounds of T-34s coming through the mist... and find themselves all alone! (Based on portions of the movie and novel "The Cross of Iron.")
