This battle is a Russian retreat German advance at the greatest speed possible. Russian must avoid losses by withdrawing all troops behind the river, engage as little as possible. Russians can't afford the losses but must keep spotters to make their artillery effective. Russians use their artillery to slow down the Germans. While the Germans use their armor to advance.
Victory levels are too close where a game can swing from a loss to a victory in one turn. The design is actually quite well thought out but I did not see its intent until I had actually played the game. Has the potential of being a great game with some tweeks.
