[This scenario is intended to be played with the Blitzkrieg EFII expansion pack installed]: Yelnia, Russia: [Best played versus Human Opponent]: Along with Smolensk, the high ground of Yelnia was listed in the Operation Objectives for Army Group Center for Operation Barbarossa. These commanding heights and vital road/rail junction were key to any attack on the city of Moscow. The Russians knew this and used the Desna River south of Yelnia as a new antitank barrier. The hills around and Yelnia itself were to be fortified and entrenched. The Russians employed mass numbers of civilians to work on the defenses. Air reconnaissance detected the construction and the German High Command decided it would be wise to attack quickly. Leading the attack was 10. Panzer Division, worn down in men, artillery and tanks yet eager to fight and capture it's objective. SS Das Reich Division and Grossdeutschland Infantry Regiment would follow up and help secure the high ground. The three division would hold the line, under ceaseless counter attacks, continual artillery bombardment and the howls of 'Urra, Urra' from the fanatical Russians as the charged the frontline. NOTE: The historical actions that this particular scenario are supposed to represent had actually taken place over a couple of weeks. Before the infantry would arrive and relieve the divisions for their new task, heading south to Kiev. Due to the limitations of the game system, I have done what I can in the 150 turns to bring the 'feel' of what it would have been like to command both forces during this hellish campaign.
