Tsugen Shima. A small island three miles off the southeast coast of Okinawa. Historical scenario. Best played as the Americans or against a human opponent. As the battle for southern Okinawa intensified, it became apparent to the Americans that they had to secure their flanks from possible Japanese attacks. Therefore the Eastern Islands, which are located just east of Okinawa, had to be taken. The only island in this group with any sizable Japanese force was Tsugen Shima. A small but dedicated force of Japanese Army and Naval forces were dug in, fortified with an assortment of heavy weapons, and perfectly willing to defend the island to the last man. The 3rd Battalion of the 105th Infantry Regiment of the 27th Army Division was ordered to take the island quickly, so that they could re-join the rest of their division as soon as possible on Okinawa. The Americans had support from the U.S. Navy in the form of a cruiser and two destroyers. Even with all of this support, the soldiers in the landing craft knew that this could be a tough one. Designers note: This is an updated version of my scenario, "A Tough Little Fight". Many changes in the map and scenario conditions and a completely new order of battle for the Japanese. MW
