Iwo Jima Island (Best played by either side.): D+10. Again the previous day the Marines made impressive gains in the western and central sectors of the island and are still stymied in the eastern sector. The Japanese forward artillery postions continued to be hammered and knocked out, lessoning their effect on the Marines. The Marines continue to press the offensive but the troops are beginning to tire after almost ten days of continous combat, despite the fact that the battalions are rotated in and out of the front line on an almost daily basis. The Japanese continue their tenacious defense depsite of the growing shortages of food, water and ammunition.
