Iwo Jima Island (Best played by either side.): D+3. The fourth day of the battle saw the Marines slowly chipping away at the Japanese defenses but making few gains. The only success that the Marines can claim is the clearing of the low ground around Mount Suribachi in preparation for the assault on the mountain the next day. The heavy casualties incurred thus far have forced the Marines to start landing elements of the 3rd Marine Division to provide fresh troops for the fight. The Japanese continue to defend fiercely.
