Shing Mun Hill, 10km NNW of Victoria, Hong Kong: NIGHT [Best played as Axis] While Nagumo's carrier planes were raiding Pearl Harbor, other Japanese forces began to move against Allied territories in the Far East. On 8 December the 38th Division began operations against the Kowloon Peninsula and the Crown Colony of Hong Kong. The main line of resistance, known as the Gin Drinkers' Line, was a series of entrenched positions stretching from Gin Drinkers' Bay on the peninsula's western shore, east to the South China Sea. Anchoring the western end of the Commonwealth line was the Shing Mun Redoubt, a series of trenches and bunkers manned by the 2nd Royal Scots Battalion and backed by the 2nd/14 Punjab Battalion behind the hill. Just after midnight on the 10th, Japanese soldiers from Colonel Doi's 228th Infantry Regiment surged up the hill and flung themselves at the British position taking the Scottish troops by surprise and beginning a furious battle to crack the Gin Drinkers' Line.
