Descent on San Pablo Airstrip - The Matrix Games version of Rising Sun

San Pablo Airstrip, Leyte Island, Philippines. Historical scenario. Best played by any method. General Yamashita, commander of all Japanese forces in the Philippines, wanted to stop, and if possible, reverse the American advances on Leyte. His plan was to drop specially trained and equiped paratroopers on three airstrips held by the American Army. One of these airstrips was San Pablo. The mission of the Katori Shimpei Force, was to seize the airstrip, to destroy as many airplanes and equippment as possible and to inflict heavy casualties on the Americans. Next, they were to fortify and hold the airstrip until Japnese ground units arrived, who would presumably reach the airfields the next morning in an overall attempt to gain the initiative in the battle for Leyte. Defending the San Pablo Airstrip were elements of the 11th Airborne Division, which included Airborne engineers, signal company troops, headquarters for the 674th Field Artillery Battery, and service and special troops. The Americans were on alert for a paratooper assault, but were understrength and low on ammunition. This scenario only covers San Pablo Airstrip and the night action that occured. It ends before the Americans brought in reinforcements to retake the airstrip the following day. The fixed artillery tractors represent parked American aircraft and their fuel and ordinance and are targets and objectives.
