Hypothetical scenario... best played as a 2x2 team game... Mishi-Kagoshima, Kyushu, Japan 16 Nov 1945 Operation Olympic
The initial stages of Operation Olympic, though extremely costly for both sides, had proceeded as planned for the American forces on and around Kyushu. By 15 Oct 1945, Task Force 44, comprised mainly of the 10th Mountain (US Army) and 3rd Marine Division had advanced to the outskirts of the main objective of the first stage of the attack, the city of Kagoshima.
The majority of TF-44's success thus far was contributed to by the mass pounding of Japenese Defenses by the Naval Guns of Vice Admiral Olendorfs, TF-54, yet recently, a determined resistance by the Submarines of the IJN has caused the majority of TF-54's ships to be evacuated to a more defendable position....... On the morning of 16 November, the 3rd Marine Division began its assault on the outskirts of Kagoshima, while the 10th Mountain slowly made its way to cover the western flank... Humiliated by the previous series of defeats on its on homeland, the IJA would throw every available reserve they had in the area of Kagoshima, and attempt a brave and desperate break through to the besieged defenders of Mishi-Kagoshima, giving the slow-moving 10th Mountain Division a surprise all it's own... seeming more like a clash on a front now etched into the pages of history to the West...
