Wake Atoll, WSW of Hawaii: [Best played as Axis] Wake Atoll is a small bump of land rising from the sea more than two thousand miles west by southwest of Pearl Harbor. In 1941, the US possession was a stopover for the Pan American Clipper route to the east with a small garrison of the First Marine Defense Battalion commanded by Major Devereux, and a number of construction workers improving the naval air station. The islands various coastal defense installations and dozen early model F4F Wildcat fighters would play an unexpected role during the initial days of the War in the Pacific. Following the surprise strike at Pearl Harbor, Devereux's detachment and hastily organized civilian defenders came under attack by Japanese planes and ships from the Mandate Islands. The garrison managed to repulse an amphibious landing on 11 December, sinking two destroyers in the process and handing the Japanese their first setback in the master plan for armed expansion in the Pacific! By December 23rd, following daily bombings of the tiny islands, the Japanese special naval landing force had been reinforced and a second attempt to seize the American outpost was launched. It was up to Commander Tanaka's imperial marines to dig out the Americans who were determined to insure that the price for the tiny piece of real estate would be high.

A good looking map with scenic beaches for the Japanese to land on.......but with the fixed Marines very hard to defend......

Interesting, but once the SNLF gets ashore, it is all Japanese.
