Kilabo, Papua New Guinea: [Best played as Axis] Toward the end of August 1942, the Japanese decided to seize the airstrips at Milne Bay on the eastern tip of New Guinea from the growing Allied garrison immediately instead of waiting for the conclusion of the Port Moresby Campaign. During the night of the 25th the 5th Kure SNLF, with a number of light tanks and the 16th Naval Engineers, were landed near Wago Wago, east of the planned landing site at Rabi and several days march from their objective. However, after brushing aside Australian attempts to delay their advance, the invaders were finally in position to launch an attack against No. 3 Airstrip near Kilabo as the sun rose on August 28th. Defending the strip was the 25th Battalion from Brigadier Field's 7th Australian Militia Brigade reinforced by elements of the US 46th Construction Engineers. With the remaining airstrips holding Milne Force's P-40 fighters and Gili Gili Jetty only a few kilometers away, the green Aussie soldiers and American GIs prepared for a showdown. The attackers had to be held to prevent a breakthrough, which would allow Japanese reinforcements to pour into the heart of the Australian defenses.

Slog in the mud in the jungles of New Guinea! Close combat only with limited artillery for the outnumbered allies! Good fun.

A very entertaining scenario with elite IJA infantry in a race against time to make the exit hexes and hold the VP locations against low morale Aussie and US infantry...
