Oleai, 8km S of Garapan, Saipan: NIGHT [Best played against Human opponent] By darkness of the first day on Saipan American commanders at sea were declaring the landings a success. Although, for the marines still scratching their way up from the beaches the issue was still very much in doubt. In fact, by mid-afternoon General Saito commanding the Japanese defenses had already issued orders to push the invaders back into the sea with armored counterattacks. Throughout the first night the 2nd and 4th Marine Divisions were able to beat back the first tentative armored thrusts. However, Saito was not deterred and the 9th Tank Regiment was instructed to launch a coordinated attack with elements of the 136th Infantry Regiment shortly after midnight on the 17th. Advancing from the high ground south of Mt. Tipo Pale towards the radio station behind the 3rd/6 Marine Battalion's lines, the Japanese pushed through a furious barrage of machinegun, bazooka and artillery fire. Responding to shouts of "TANKS UP," crewman from the 2nd Tank Battalion manned their Shermans and rushed forward to reinforce the infantry and face the largest Japanese armored attack of the Pacific War.
that can be won by the IJA with a certain strategy.
Lots of smoke and flares in this one.....
