Southeast of Bojonegoro, Java: Japanese MGen Tsuchihashi's 48th Division, fresh from it's not so happy experiences in the Philippines, landed successfully on the northeastern shore of Java, on the beaches on both sides of Kragan, on March 1st. Meeting only sporadic and very weak resistance from light elements of the Dutch 1st and 4th Recon Cavalry Units, the Japanese Division strikes south and east toward it's ultimate goal of Soerabaja, and the expansive naval facilities there. While elements move directly east toward Soerabaja, the main part of the Japanese Division advances southeast through Bojonegoro and across the Solo River, toward the Brantas River where the intention is to there turn north and strike Soerabaja from the south. In the interim, Dutch Col vanKuilenburg's 6th KNIL Infantry Regiment takes up a hastily prepared defensive line between the Solo and Brantas Rivers. The Allied right is anchored on the Solo River with the left extending south, hoping to block any Japanese advance any further east. The Dutch Marine Battalion is brought along to bolster the Allied force. On the morning of the 4th, the Japanese make their move.
