1st Airborne - The Matrix Games version of West Front

Arnhem, 100km E of Rotterdam, Holland: This scenario is modified to include the entire 1st Airborne Division and Polish Brigade on Day 1. It also includes an accelerated German deployment to include forces from the original Red Beret scenario previously not used. The primary lessons learned for MG Urquhart (in his book "Arnhem") is that he needed his entire division, closer to the bridge, and more air cover. This scenario provides that. It presents the decisive opening act of the struggle for control of the Arnhem Bridge for the entire first day. Orders are: "1st Airborne Div will seize Arnhem and the crossings over the Neder Rhine, and establish a bridgehead to the north of that town. This crucial first day at Arnhem will decide the fate of Operation Market-Garden and that of the division. Quickly seizing Arnhem will provide a decisive advantage for the Allies. The bridge is the decisive point for the Allied strategic and operational end state to have instant access into the German Ruhr industrial area. The industrial area is a center of gravity for German armed forces. Therefore, the 1st Airborne is the main effort in the airborne operation. The Germans will need to prioritize their defense early and build combat power for decisive operations later in the game as forces become available. The bridge must not fall into Allied hands!
