Eben Emael, north of Liege, Belgium. (Best played as Axis). In 1940 the Belgian fortress of Eben Emael was regarded as the most formidable in the world. It's guns dominated the crossings of the River Meuse and The Albert Canal, and therefore it was essential to the success of the German invasion plans that this mighty fortress be taken as speedily as possible. An elite airborne engineer unit, Assault Force Koch, was assembled for the task of taking the fort and it's neighbouring bridges. The unit assigned to taking the fort itself was Lieutenant Witzig's platoon. For months it was kept in virtual isolation, training under the utmost secrecy for it's special task. It's secret weapon was the hollow charge explosives, designed to destroy the concrete and steel gun turrets of the fort. Eventhough the Belgians knew an attack was coming, the actual method the Germans used took them completely by surprise. At 4.25am, Witzig's gliders landed on the roof of the fort!
