Ghirba (on the Lybia-Egypt frontier, South of Ridotta Capuzzo), the first clash between armored forces in North Africa occurred when the Colonna D'Avanzo (Task Force D'Avanzo) was dispatched, by the XXI Corps, to patrol the frontier between Sidi Omar and Capuzzo. On the morning of the 16th, the Colonna was spotted by two platoons of the 11th Hussars, which promptly requested reinforcements.
