Dieppe, 120km SW of Dunkirk, France: [Best played as the Allied] As a watered-down raid of an original full-scale Western Front invasion, Operation Jubiliee was a landing rehearsal in disaster. At dawn's early light, 6100 men, consisting of 4663 Canadian soldiers, 298 officers, an assortment of British Commandos and Marines, and 50 US Rangers, set out for Dieppe, France. The battle lasted only 9 hours. At day's end, only 2210 wounded and a few unhurt men returned to British soil. 907 Canadians had been killed, and 1946 were left behind as POWs. All the Churchill tanks that had landed were smoking wrecks. The Royal Regiment from Toronto suffered a 95% casualty rate! Even the Royal Navy lost about 550 men, one destroyer and 33 LCPs. Even the RAF suffered heavily, losing 106 planes to the Germans' 48. German casualties were only 591.
