Sidi Rezegh, 35km SE of Tobruk, Libya: [Best played as Axis] Nearly a week following the Axis successes on Tottensonntag, the Afrika Korps was once again fighting for control of the Sidi Rezegh area in the North African desert. Rommel's dash to the Egyptian/Libyan frontier with the Afrika Korps during the intervening week had failed to cause the desired full-scale panic and rout of the British Eighth Army. Instead the Commonwealth formations had used the opportunity to recover from the mauling they had received during the opening rounds of Operation Crusader. In addition the 2nd New Zealand Division had recaptured Sidi Rezegh and the Tobruk Garrison had nearly smashed a corridor out of the besieged port. Even worse, the war of attrition was beginning to turn against the Germans and the panzer divisions were forced to rely more on their infantry as losses to tanks from battle and breakdown became increasingly critical. Late in the afternoon of the 30th elements of the 115th Motorized Rifle Regiment and the remaining tanks of the 15th Panzer struck from the south against the 6th NZ Brigade holding the Prophets Tomb area. For both sides the success or failure of Crusader was still in doubt!
