Vevi, 40km SE of Monastir, Greece: [Best played as Axis] Hitler's ambitions for expansion had long included Greece, where subversion or conquest would secure the new German Empire's security in the south as Norway had in the north. Italy's disastrous invasion in October 1941, guaranteed that Greece would have to be taken by force. In early April 1941, two German armies smashed into the Balkans. British General Wilson found himself commanding a hastily assembled expeditionary force of Commonwealth units. With the Greek Army beginning to crumble and little cooperation with the navy and airforce, Wilson had no choice but to fall back towards Athens and the Aegean. The reinforced Australian 19th/6 Infantry Brigade was left to hold the pass at Vevi, southeast of Monastir, while other formations formed a defensive line between Mt. Olympus and Aliakmon. On 12 April the 1st SS Motorized Brigade, reinforced by the I/33 Panzer Battalion, slammed into the Allied troops, kicking open the gateway to Olympus.
