Gliders over Valkenburg - The Matrix Games version of West Front

The northern most airfield of The Hague to be captured by the Germans was Airfield Valkenburg, named after the little village just north of it. It did have a force to defend, but was not yet finished so there were no Dutch airplanes stationed. There was a considerable landingforce of glidertroops of the 22nd Airlanding Division commited; the 3rd Battalion landed on the airfield, but due to overcrowdedness the other gliders had to land on the beach. The Germans quickly conquered the airfield and reacted swiftly in capturing important roads, villages and bridges to secure their bridgehead. The Dutch forces of the 4th Infantry Regiment were also quick to contain German progress.
