On MAY 10, 1940 German troops invaded the Netherlands. The main line of defense in the centre of the country was the so called 'Grebbelinie', a small line of relatively high country running from the 'Zuiderzee' to the river Rhine. This scenario represents the defense by the Dutch II corps, stretched from Scherpenzeel to the Grebbeberg against attacks of the German 10 corps reinforced by the SS-regiment 'Der Fuhrer' . The battle of the Grebbeberg is in Dutch history known as the struggle between hardly trained and poorly equiped Dutch forces against a battle experienced and well motivated and prepared opponent.
