Nbeidat Ridge, 50km SE of Tobruk, Libya: [Best played against Human opponent] As the Commonwealth divisions retreated toward Egypt from the Gazala Line, the Afrika Korps maintained a constant pressure to give the impression that Rommel was intent on destroying the Eighth Army. His real objective remained what it always had been - Tobruk! However, before the desert fortress could be invested the remaining British mobile formations west of the Egyptian border had to be dealt with. Hurriedly refitted at Gambut with less than a hundred operational tanks, including the attached 9th Lancers, the 4th Armoured Brigade was no longer the well-equipped and trained formation it had been before the Gazala battles. Stripped of supporting infantry and most artillery, Brigadier Richard's disorganized brigade was instructed to wait southeast of Sidi Rezegh and strike the Axis formations in the flank as they moved east. When armor from the infamous 21st Panzer Division was reported advancing from the Rezegh Airfield, the depleted 9th Lancers were dispatched to reinforce the thin Indian gun line along Nbeidat Ridge. More support was promised to stop the German panzers, but for now Colonel Macdonell's squadrons were "in trouble again."
making close combat its wild card. Found that close combat evens the two sides because the germans have the numbers.
