This scenario is a sequel to "The Grim Road To Hoogerheide" On 12 October 1944, the battle for the control of the land entrance to South Beveland and Walcheren had been raging for five days. The Germans, desperate to stop the Canadians from cutting the line to the garrissons controlling the Scheldt mouth had committed some of their best troops. Taken out of succesful operations elsewhere, Von de Heydtes first class paratroopers had been trucked to the scene and hastily trown into battle at Hoogerheide. From 8 to 11 October furious German counterattacks had temporarily stopped the Canadians but full control of the isthmus entrance was not yet regained. The German plan therefore was to attack from the east with the bulk of Kampgruppe Chill, thus moving forward in a westerly direction in order to reach the mouth of the Scheldt northwest of Ossendrecht thereby cutting off the enemy at Hoogerheide from his rear communications and re-establishing sure acces to Walcheren island. Meanwhile the Canadian 2nd division had other plans and had taken the 5th Brigade from the frontline to rest and prepare for a renewed offensive. When the Germans struck, the brunt of the German onslaught had to be met by the 4th and the 6th Brigade, both desperately in need of replacements.
