Keru, Eritrea: While the bulk of the Italian forces in Eritrea are gathering at Keren in an attempt to block the British advance toward Asmara, British Brigadier General W.J. Slim's 10th Indian Brigade/5th Indian Division advances from Aicota in an attempt to cut the Italian retreat route at Keru. The Italian 41st Colonial Brigade's job is to delay the British advance and then withdraw toward Asmara, inflicting as much damage on the British as possible.
