After the nearly unopposed landing during "Torch", the Allied First Army raced towards the Tunisian Capital. German High command realised the danger that Rommel's Afrika Korps could be cut off from it's main supply base. Therefore it sent every available reinforcement into the area. Commando Supremo would also direct reinforcements to the area. The first troops to arrive in Tunisia were the Fallschirmjäger. These lightly eguiped troops were brought in by airlift and directed toward the front as soon as they arrived. Major Koch of I./ 5th FJ Regiment received orders to stop the Allied advance towards Tunis. He was ordered to take up a blocking position at Medjez-El-Bab only 50 km's east of Tunis. Reinforcements were underway, but for now he had to stop the British 11th Infantry Brigade which was supported by elements of US 1st Armored Division.
