Opening Blows in Tunisia - The Matrix Games version of West Front

Tebourba, 30km W of Tunis, Tunisia: [Best played as Axis] News of the sporadic French resistance to Operation Torch led Hitler to execute Plan Anton, the occupation of Vichy France. This action was accompanied by a decision to form an Axis bridgehead around Tunis to oppose the Allied advance from Algeria and to protect the rear of Rommel's Panzer Army retreating through Libya. Soon elements of the XC Korps, later the 5th Panzer Army, were pouring into the port and airfields of Tunis. General Anderson, whose task it was to seize Tunis with the embryonic British 1st Army, wasted little time in driving east. But the British plan made the mistake of advancing on too wide a front with forces out of supporting distance of each other. The situation was ripe for a German counterattack! While other elements of the 10th Panzer Division pinned down Allied forces east of Tebourba, just 30km west of Tunis, Kampfgruppen Luder and Hudel struck from the north through Chouigui. The German objective was to destroy the British Blade Force with the attached 2/13th US Tank Battalion and eliminate the threat to Djedeida and Tunis.
