In order to sever the German army in The Netherlands the Allied forces resumed there offensive in the spring of 1945 by opening attacks in the east of the country. The aim was to push north and cut off all Germans in the west, while simultaneously getting access to Germany itself. The British 49th Division chose to attack across the river IJssel near Westenvoort, just as had the Germans done in May 1940. As the river was swollen and the bridges destroyed, an amphibious assault was planned in the early morning, while pontoonneers had to make a bridge for the tanks. Fierce opposition was met of the German troops guarding the outsirts of the destroyed city of Arnhem. The British troops were carried across in three waves in order to subdue the strongpoints in two factories and the old fortress Westenvoort.

Not sure what was intended. This had no victory levels. It would be a matter of killing more of the enemy. Brits had a lot of troopers supported by tanks but they were making an assault across a river into the teeth of German infantry with anti armor capabilities supported by rocket artillery.
