Keppeln, Rhineland [Historical]:[H2H] Note: Players should follow instructions in the text file to change to night visibility for turns 21 to 30. Operation Veritable had completed Phase 1 to clear the Reichwald and capture the large cities of Gennep, Asperden, and Kleve. Phase 2 was underway to take Goch, Weese, Udem, and Calkar. The 2nd and 3rd Canadian Divisions drove south and southeast toward Udem and Calkar. Moyland Woods was a major obstacle. 46th Brigade attacked there, but bogged down by the 16th of February. 7th Brigade under Brigadier JG Spragg launched an attack from the south. The 1st Canadian Scottish and Regina Rifles attacked the Moyland Woods. The attack pushed forward and tough fighting raged for the farms of Brunshof, Taubenhof, and Mooshof along the Goch-Calkar Road. Later, the 227th Brigade of the 15th Scottish Division probed into the area between the 156 Panzergrenadiers and Goch. The situation for the Germans was very critical in the center and left. On a one-time basis, Army Group West released the Panzer Lehr Division. At 1350 hours at a crucial time, a Kampfgruppe consisting of Panzergrenadier Regiment 901, 22 battleworthy panzers, and one artillery battalion joined the fight. At 2000 hours Panzer Lehr assembled with 60 PzGr and 17 FJR at Todtenhugel. General von Luttwitz gave specific orders to retake Schwanenhof and to restore the main battle line...
